Tasting Notes
Cape Campbell Limited Edition Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2006
Marlborough has one of the longest ripening periods for growing grapes in the world. The spring and summer of the 2006 vintage was warm with settled weather. The autumn days were long and hot with cooler temperatures at night.
Palate:
Aromas of honeydew melon and a soft almost floral delicacy of crushed herb follow through into the palate. The well balanced characters of the tropical passionfruit are a perfect combination to the almost salty mineral herbal notes. This is a full bodied seductive Sauvignon Blanc with both a lovely mouth-feel and a lingering finish.
Ageing Potential:
Sauvignon Blanc is such a versatile and mouth-filling wine. Due to the complexity of this wine it very enjoyable as an aperitif and also with slightly more intense cuisine. We recommend savouring this wine in the first 2 -3 years.
Wine Making:
First crop hand picked Sauvignon Blanc from the home block of Cape Campbell was harvested on a cool autumn morning. This fruit showed exceptional mineral and citrus freshness and vibrancy. The older vines from the Kernick vineyard in Rapaura was harvested a day later with the fruit having more intense tropical notes. The two batches were kept separate and both underwent cool fermentation with select yeasts. When both batches were almost dry the two components were tasted for blending. Both offer unique yet very complementary and appealing characters. The title Reserve is only given when outstanding fruit is made into an exceptional wine.
